There is a brand new Unreal Engine 5 project that you can download for free! Available now on the Unreal Marketplace, Stack’O’Bot is a great project for those picking up Unreal Engine for the first time or for indie developers looking to try out all the new features in Unreal Engine 5.

In this video we give you a brief overview of the project:

We thought it would be useful to give a quick rundown of the shiny new features you will find in this project.

Starting off with character building, our little robot is packed with features that go beyond simple movement. This includes a jetpack, cloning, and the ability to interact with buttons and switches.

Animations are improved with a Control Rig, adjusting position and placement to give the character precise foot placement and allow them to realistically interact with objects.

Input is handled using the new Enhanced input system, which moves each interaction type to a file in the content browser and lets you easily expand on the type of key interaction.
The MainWorld map has been built using World Partition, which handles all streaming and LOD generation.

One file per actor turns every actor into a unique file, allowing multiple developers to work on a single scene together.

The buildings are made with Packed Level Blueprints, which consolidate groups of meshes down into easy to manage Blueprint actors that can be edited in the main level.

Almost every actor in the world uses Nanite, virtualized geometry that always provides the best resolution your assets can be.
And it's lit with Lumen, Unreal Engine's real-time global illumination solution for next-gen platforms.

In addition to all the new features in Unreal Engine 5, we also have long-standing workflows found in UE4 that will be useful for new developers to look at.

The project includes best practices for materials, including setting up a base material for instancing...
...a landscape material that includes runtime virtual texture output and material blending...
...and simple foliage interactions.

We hope you enjoy learning more about Unreal Engine 5 with this mini project. All the assets are free to download, including the character, 50+ meshes, particle effects, and a range of materials. So check out Stack’O’Bot and let us know what you think!
