Introducing the Epic ecosystem for media & entertainment

The Epic ecosystem encompasses a broad range of 3D digital creation tools, designed to give you everything you need to create immersive virtual worlds, high-quality linear content, stylized animation—or anything else you’re inspired to.

It also includes popular tools like MetaHuman, RealityScan, and more. Here’s a quick guide to finding and setting them up.

Building virtual worlds with Unreal Engine, UEFN, and Twinmotion

Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) provides the tools and assets you need to create breathtaking digital sets. Whether your story takes place in an atmospheric Victorian mansion, a crumbling Mayan jungle temple, or the sleek interior of a spaceship, you can create it with UE5.

It also comes with Hollywood-grade cinematic tools and robust VFX, physics, and lighting systems, making it easy to incorporate into a modern digital production. Twinmotion, on the other hand, is perfect for initial concepts and previs, as it offers an intuitive UI and plenty of creative options—all without the need to code.

And for playable experiences that build on animated worlds, you can look to Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), which empowers creators to build experiences and publish them directly into Fortnite. Find out more below.

Unreal Engine

Unreal Engine is an advanced real-time 3D creation tool that’s perfect for everything from photoreal visuals to immersive experiences. You can use it to create animation; produce visual effects (VFX); and utilize virtual production workflows that include assembling complex scenes for previsualization, powering a live event with real-time AR and lighting, filming an episodic show in front of a LED wall, and more.

You can download it for free with the Epic Games launcher.

Populating your virtual world with digital assets

So you can use Unreal Engine and Twinmotion to create 3D environments. And MetaHuman to fill that space with digital characters. But what about all the other stuff you need to build a virtual world—buildings, cars, forests, animals, and more?

The Epic ecosystem offers a number of options for bringing assets into your digital environment. You can scan real-world objects and turn those into 3D models, or you can browse one of our libraries of digital assets to find what you’re looking for.

RealityCapture

RealityCapture is a powerful desktop application that enables you to create high-fidelity 3D models from laser scans and photos.
